Create awareness on substance use disorder and raise funds for Second Chance Opportunities

A Recovery Community Center in Albany – all through a fun, family-friendly event

Guilderland, NY: Fatal overdoses claimed at least 6,300 New Yorker’s lives from May 2022 – May 2023; this number is predicted to be over 7,000 for 2024. The Capital Region has not been spared by the crisis. Second Chance Opportunities, Inc. needs your help making recovery from substance use disorder sustainable in our hometowns. They are excited to announce that they will be holding The Amazing Race to Recovery, a fun, family-friendly event where teams complete competitive challenges. The event will be held on April 6th 2024 here at Crossgates from 11 am to 3:30 pm, when there will be a closing ceremony and awards for the winners until 4:30 pm.

The event is open to the public.  Teams of two to five people may participate, and cost is $20 per person. Teams can register for the event at www.amazingracetorecovery.org. Sponsorships are available at levels from $500-$5000.  Companies or organizations wishing to support the event can sign up as sponsors via the website or have their employees form teams and participate in the event.

Second Chance Opportunities, Inc., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support services to individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. In addition to providing employment opportunities and recovery coaching services, Second Chance Opportunities, Inc. also operates a housing program in Albany, NY. Donations and sponsorships directly support the Recovery Housing program, providing shelter for 88 individuals, including men, women, and children.


As recovery housing funding is currently non-existent, Second Chance Opportunities, Inc. solely relies on earned funds to supplement the direct costs of housing. They ensure a fresh start by furnishing each residence with new furniture, bedding, kitchen essentials, and bathroom necessities. Additional costs covered include utilities and building maintenance for all 13 buildings situated on a single block in Albany.


Nestled in the Pine Hills neighborhood of Albany, NY, the housing offers a safe and sober environment conveniently located near bus lines, supermarkets, support meetings, and essential resources for individuals and families thriving in recovery from substance use disorder. To sustain this critical service, SCO allocates $190,000 annually, and any donation directly contributes to closing this financial gap. Contributions ensure that those on the path to recovery have a stable and supportive home to facilitate their journey.
