Shalom Food Pantry hosts its Fourth Annual Kids Can Build
Guilderland, NY: Join the Shalom Food Pantry today at Crossgates for an exciting competition taking place among various middle schools that benefit the local community. Today, the Shalom Food Pantry is hosting its fourth annual Kids Can Build event. This program is teaching the children the importance of giving back to their community and bringing awareness to food insecurity.
Location: Crossgates Mall, lower level near Burlington Coat Factory
Timeline:
- Structures are being built from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
- New this year! Judges will be building a collaborative structure 12:00 p.m. -12:30 p.m.
- Judging 12:30 p.m. -1:00 p.m.
- Awards Ceremony 1:15 p.m -1:30 p.m
Four local middle schools are participating in the Kids Can Build program. The students are competing by building life size model structures out of donated food items. The structures will then be exhibited at Crossgates for one week until Monday, December 11th.
This competition “brings to life” all of the valuable STEAM educational methods that they are learning in the classroom. The students are incorporating this project into their curriculum for six weeks to design and build their structures using science, math, engineering, technology and art.
