Local leaders and businesses attend ribbon-cutting for 20-stall Supercharger

On Tuesday morning, Tesla, New York State Senator George Amedore and Assembly Member Patricia Fahy joined elected leaders and businesses from the Capital Region to open a new Supercharger at Albany’s Crossgates Mall. With 20 stalls, this Supercharger is now the largest in the Northeast.

Before cutting a ribbon to open the Supercharger, Senator Amedore and Assembly Member Fahy addressed the growing demand in New York State for sustainable transportation options and the economic benefits of Tesla’s investment in local communities.

“When I speak to my constituents and to New Yorkers from across the state, I hear a real desire for greater access to zero-emissions vehicles. I support and appreciate all of Tesla’s efforts to meet this demand, including the opening of Superchargers that strengthen our electric vehicle infrastructure,” said State Senator George Amedore. “What’s more, this Supercharger will benefit local businesses in the Capital Region by drawing new visitors to Crossgates Mall.”

“I truly hope that the Supercharger station at Crossgates Mall helps ‘supercharge’ the use of electric vehicles,” said Assembly Member Patricia Fahy. “Thank you to Crossgates for your vision, and thank you to Tesla for your ongoing work to make electric vehicles more accessible.”

Representatives from Crossgates Mall, Albany County, the Town of Guilderland and Alliance for Clean Energy New York also spoke to the significance of this new Supercharger, as did local business owners from Mirbeau Hospitality Services and Cole’s Collision Centers, which will soon become the first certified Tesla body repair shop in the Capital Region.

“We are honored to continue our relationship with such a unique and innovative company. The supercharging station at Crossgates is the fourth that Pyramid and Tesla have partnered on across Upstate New York  and we look forward to growing this relationship further in the future,” said Michael Gately, General Manager at Crossgates Mall. “As Tesla continues to grow their infrastructure across Upstate New York, we believe that the Guilderland Supercharger Station at Crossgates represents a perfect location to serve Tesla Drivers.”

“The addition of this new charging facility meshes with the county’s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability and moving to a greener future,” said County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “I want to commend the people at Tesla for their working to provide the needed infrastructure here in the county to help us advance that mission.”

“The Town of Guilderland is thrilled to welcome a corporate leader in green energy to our community,” said Peter G. Barber, Town of Guilderland Supervisor. “This latest project complements the Town’s plans to create a transit oriented development district which will promote the growth of local businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues.”

“It is exciting that New York is now home to largest Tesla Supercharger in the Northeast,” said Anne Reynolds, Executive Director, Alliance for Clean Energy New York. “This Supercharger will make it easier for drivers to choose electric vehicles, continuing our state’s legacy of promoting clean energy.”

“From test driving events to public charging stations, Mirbeau Inn & Spa is proud to collaborate with Tesla and we look forward to offering our customers the same convenience when we open our new day resort concept, Spa Mirbeau, at Crossgates Mall this fall,” said Jonathan Dal Pos, Managing Partner, Mirbeau Hospitality Services.

“Cole’s Collision Centers is excited to become the only authorized Tesla body repair shop in the Capital Region,” said John Cole, Owner of Cole’s Collision Centers. “Just as Tesla’s unique vehicles have attracted a growing customer base, gaining this certification will set us apart and earn us new customers, including those who come to Crossgates to use the Supercharger.”

Tesla has made significant investments in New York State, employing over 1,000 people and building an extensive electric vehicle charging network that comprises over 20% of the state’s goal for 3,000 charging stations by 2018. In line with its global commitment, Tesla plans to double its Supercharger footprint in New York.

The company is also working to meet New Yorkers’ growing demand for zero-emissions vehicles by supporting legislation that would allow the company to increase its number of licensed stores in the state from five to twenty. Bills that would allow this expansion were introduced into the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate during the 2017 legislative session, with Assembly Majority Leader Morelle and Senator Amedore as the respective sponsors.

“Tesla is dedicated to pursuing a clean energy future for New York State,” said a Tesla spokesperson. “As demonstrated today in Albany, expanding the number of Superchargers is part of the plan. Another critical part is to increase the number of licensed stores in New York so that more consumers can learn about and consider owning sustainable products like electric vehicles, solar panels and storage batteries. If legislation passes, Tesla is prepared to invest in additional stores and Superchargers throughout the state.”
