County Executive McCoy Announces 38th Annual Traffic Safety Awareness Show & Car Seat Check
Guilderland, NY: We know that seatbelts help save lives, but did you know that you lower your risk of dying in a car crash by 45% if you are wearing a seatbelt in the front seat? That’s what the CDC reminds us of during this Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week. Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and Crossgates are once again hosting the Albany County Traffic Safety Awareness Show & Car Seat Check this Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25.
“This is the 30th anniversary of the car seat safety check which we started in the parking lot of a pre-school that does not even exist anymore,” said County Executive McCoy. “And in those 30 years, we have equipped so many parents not only with how to properly install a car seat, but with greater education about safety when they travel in the car. At our last car safety seat check in June, out of 48 car seats inspected, only three were correctly installed. I am happy we continue to offer this vital opportunity to keep our children safe.”
The 38th Annual Traffic Safety Awareness Show will be hosted inside Crossgates from 11am to 9pm on the lower level near AT&T down to H&M on Saturday & Sunday. The car seat check will run Saturday only from 11am to 2pm in the overflow parking lot adjacent to the Homewood Suites and Tru by Hilton hotel.
Over the weekend, participants will be educated on the dangers that exist on the road and best practices for traffic and child passenger safety. Both events are free and sponsored by The Albany County Department of Public Works Traffic Safety Program.
